Caesar dressing is a popular and versatile dressing commonly used in salads. There will be no need to buy the bottled dressing after making it for the first time homemade! It can be used beyond salads as a dip for veggies, a spread for sandwiches, or even as a marinade for grilled chicken. It’s no wonder its so popular today.

You might be tempted to buy the bottled dressing, but take a second to ask yourself, “Do I really want this bottled dressing with some ingredients I don’t understand or can I make this at home plenty of times over without having to spend money for each batch?” The answer is: yes, you want to make it at home. It’s easy; you may already have some of the ingredients in your house. This dressing is known for its tangy flavors, creaminess, and simplicity. It takes 5 minutes to make, which is faster and cheaper than going to your grocery store and picking up a bottle.

You can use this dressing as a dip, a spread for sandwiches, a dressing for pasta salad, a sauce for chicken wings, or (and this is my favorite) you can use it as a replacement for the eggwash when you are breading chicken or fish! Caesar dressing really hits the spot and leaves an amazing feeling when you get creative with it.

How to make Homemade Caesar Dressing

Caesar dressing comes together within 5 minutes from start to finish. If you want the true flavor of the dressing, let it sit overnight. The flavors will bloom. It’s tasty if you serve it right away as well!

  • Garlic: Unless you like having big chunks of raw garlic in your dressing, I would highly recommend you make sure it’s finely minced, grated, or pressed.
  • Fresh Lemon Juice: This is one of the several ingredients that gives a tangy dressing, so only a couple of teaspoons is needed. The juice provides acidity and it balances out the anchovies.
  • Dijon Mustard: This lends some key flavoring to the Caesar dressing. It adds another layer of tanginess.
  • Anchovy Paste: This is the key ingredient that’s used in most of the Caesar dressings made to this day. I prefer the paste because it’s just easier than blending them into a paste. They add a ton of deep umami and savory flavor to this dressing, which sets it apart from other creamy salad dressings. It won’t taste like fish, I promise you!
  • Mayonnaise: The base for this dressing. It’s what makes this creamy dressing creamy!
  • Black Pepper: Adds some flavor.
  • Grated Parmigiano-Reggiano: This type of cheese is nutty in nature, so it makes this dressing even more rich. You can use parmesan in place of it.
